Year 10
The pastoral team at Mountain Ash Comprehensive School have a responsibility for the care, welfare, safety and therefore the learning environment of all our pupils. The school’s ethos provides the basis for this policy. The promotion of our agreed values and beliefs means a pupil centred approach which is designed to offer maximum support and guidance.
Through our pastoral care policy we aim
- To create and maintain an atmosphere where pupils feel they are well known, safe, valued, respected and happy
- To promote the aims of our school
- To implement our code and practice for behaviour which considers the views of all staff and pupils
- To respond in a sympathetic way to the concerns, fears and worries of our pupils
- To build an atmosphere of trust
Heads of Year, together with their pastoral teams, monitor academic progress, attendance and punctuality and uniform. To ensure continuity Heads of Year will have responsibility for a year group from Year 7 to Year 11 and are the usual first points of contact for parents in issues which affect pupils in a particular year group.
Parents are encouraged to be involved and are welcomed at every opportunity to discuss the welfare of their children.

Year 10
This is one of the biggest landmarks of a pupil’s school career. It is the year when Key Stage 4 courses are started. The pupils follow a mixture of various examinations (BTEC, GCSE and Entry Level) after making a series of options in the proceeding year.
During the two years of KS 4 pupils will be ‘tracked’ at regular intervals to ensure progress is being made. To do this pupils are assessed at regular periods throughout the year and a series of ‘broadsheet’s are produced for Heads of Years, Form tutors and pupils to enable all to maintain an overview of progress.
Also, as for all year groups, Year 10 also offers access to extra-curricular activities through many agencies. Pupils are encouraged to get involved in as many of these activities as they can.
