Cymraeg KS3

KS3 is a thematic course containing a number of themes from within the pupils’ scope of experience such as Myself, Family, Leisure, School, House and Home, Holidays etc.

Although the course is thematic it is impossible to avoid the grammatical element completely.

Pupils will be trained in the use of all language skills, Oracy, Reading and Writing.  Welsh lessons will provide opportunities for all to encounter the necessary sills for the wider world and they will use skills associated with Communication, Numeracy, Problem Solving And Working with Others.  Opportunities will also be provided to expand upon their grasp of ICT skills throughout the Key Stage.

Each pupil will be assessed in each language skill every year with a formal assessment every half term ( although not each skill every time ).

Homework

It is well understood tha an important part of learning Welsh is revision and reading over any work done in the class.  Therefore pupils are asked to spend a short time, whenever they have had a lesson, to cast an eye over the work covered in the lesson.

In addition to this there will be occasions where specific tasks will be to do as homework in addition to the reading over work.

Parental Support

We appreciate that a large number of parents feel concerned about helping children with their Welsh work. The only thing we would ask you to do is encourage your child to make the time to look over work regularly. Also we would ask you not to display any negative attitudes towards a school subject which could be of great benefit to pupils in the future.
