ICT KS3

Years 7, 8 & 9

Year 7

Pupils in year 7 have a 1 hour lesson every two weeks.  During this time we introduce them to the various software packages they will be using in the next three years.

Pupils in year 7 complete the following units:

Unit 7a – The virtual tour

The first unit provides the children with the opportunity to create a virtual tour using presentation software. The tour will focus on the children’s school environment or local community.

Unit 7b – The survey

The second unit concentrates on using data to form and test hypotheses. The children will develop their skills through a survey on eating habits and will then have the opportunity to work at independently to research potential out of school activities.

Unit 7c – Data handling

Investigates after school activities in the local community, giving the children the opportunity to work with a large data set to derive the information that they will need. Children will be able to reinforce their knowledge and undestanding of the software as they create a user guide to the software.

Unit 7d – Communication

Combines the activities from the previous unit into a leaflet. Pupils create a 4 page A5 leaflet in MS Publisher. They have to design a logo to be displayed on the first page (this can be done in Published or Fireworks). They then search for a suitable map to show where the activity centre is situated and create a suitable front page
