CACHE Level 2 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Child Care and Education 

This is a one year course studied at Mountain Ash Sixth Form. It is the equivalent of 5 GCSE qualifications. Pupils who study this course attend school Monday- Wednesday. On a Thursday and Friday they attend Placement. Placements are in nurseries, crèche or primary school.

Explanation of the 3 tiered qualification- Level 2 Award/Certificate/Diploma  

You must pass 7 Units in order to gain the Diploma.  

The course title is split into 3 qualifications:  

Award- You must achieve Units 1 and 2  

Certificate- You must achieve Units 1- 5  

Diploma – You must achieve Units 1 – 7  

Practical Training in Placement 

All students have to complete 3 different placements over the year. This qualification prepares the pupil for work in a supervised capacity.  

Students have to complete a minimum of a total of 65 days in placement. The 3 placements attended will be split between different ages.  

30 days with 1- 4year olds 

20 days with children aged 4 to 7 years 

20 days – 1- 11 years   

All students wear school uniform Monday- Wednesday. In placement they wear a uniform of a yellow polo shirt with our CACHE logo, black trousers and a red tabard for messy play.  

You are monitored in placement by a Placement Superviser and they will tick your competencies in your handbook when applicable. Mrs Jayne Hughes will also visit you on placment to check your progress.  

Attendance  

Excellent attendance is vital in order to pass this qualfication. Any missed days in placement will have to be completed unless there is a valid reason for absence.  

Assessment  

Unit 1- An Inroduction to working with children – Assignment 

Unit 2- The Developing Child  – Assignment 

Unit 3- Safe, Healthy and Nuturing environments for children- Multiple Choice Question Paper 

Unit 4- Children and Play – Assignment 

Unit 5- Communication and Professional Skills within Child Care – Portfolio 

Unit 6- The Child Care Practitioner in the workplace- Practice Evidence File 

Unit 7- Optional Unit- Assignment 

Units 1, 2,4,5 and 7 are marked A* – D 

Unit 3 is a pass or refer (this means you can resit it) 

Unit 6 is a pass or refer  

All pupils are given a Student Handbook, Text Books and Uniform when they enrol.
