BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Hospitality 

This course provides students with a specialist work-related qualification in the hospitality sector. Students who study this course will learn a variety of skills, including cooking a meal, looking after the customer, planning and running an event whilst applying knowledge and understanding in the following topics –

investigate the Catering and Hospitality industry

  • products, services and support in the hospitality industry
  • contemporary world food
  • healthier food and special diets 

It is strongly recommended that when selecting work experience options, they work in an area linked to hospitality 

The hospitality industry has excellent career opportunities; in the UK there are over 182,000 hospitality and leisure establishments, and the sector employs two million people. 

Assessment

The BTEC Extended Certificate is certificated by Edexcel.  Successful completion of this course is broadly equivalent to two GCSE’s. Assessment is continuous throughout the two-year course and is made up of practical and written tasks.  There is no final examination. 

How parents can best support their children

  1. Ensure students are prepared for all practical lessons
  2. Provide opportunities to experience the hospitality industry which will prove invaluable 

Homework BTEC

Students are expected to work more independently with regard to homework. They need to ensure all class work is finished, complete research and planning for coursework at home and prepare for tests and examinations. Further information is available on www.edexcel.com
