Vocational Studies
Edexcel BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Vocational Studies
This course is followed by students in years 10 and 11. This personalised curriculum offers students relevant bite sized achievable qualifications that provide progression into employment, further study, independent living or supported employment. They are equivalent to GCSE grades D-G.
The Edexcel BTEC Level 1 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Vocational Studies has been developed to give students the opportunity to:
- experience more than one vocational sector, where they have not yet decided on a specific
- sector to follow
- develop knowledge understanding and skills of different vocational sectors to motivate
- them to progress to higher level qualifications or employment in a specific sector.
- develop cross-cutting employability skills through carrying out practical activities in a
- vocational context
- engage in learning which is relevant to them and will provide opportunities to develop a
- range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful
- performance in working life
- progress to employment
- progress to related general and/or vocational qualifications.
To achieve the qualification students study two mandatory units:
- Self Assessment
- Career Progression
with several optional units, depending on what qualification they are studying eg Award, Certificate or Diploma. Optional units are studied from a variety of vocational areas including Art & Design, Business & Administration, Hospitality, ICT, Performing Arts, Public Services and Sport & Leisure.
Assessment
All Level 1 qualification units are internally assessed. Each unit within the qualification has specified assessment criteria which must be used. To achieve a ‘pass’ a learner must have satisfied all the assessment criteria. Learners are encouraged to produce evidence in a variety of different forms including performance observation, presentations, posters, along with projects, or time-constrained assessments, making maximum use of practical activities. ICT is used throughout the course.
